If you are suffering from seasonal allergies, I can help with acupuncture. Unlike western medicines for allergies, acupuncture relieves symptoms without side effects. Marketed under brand names like Benadryl or Claritin, antihistamines are the most common western seasonal allergy drugs. They come with long lists of miserable side effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, dry eyes, blurred or double vision, dizziness, headache, low blood pressure, mucous thickening in the airways, rapid heart rate, difficulty urinating, and constipation. Acupuncture is used to trigger the body’s inherent healing abilities to relieve your symptoms, without uncomfortable side effects.

By analyzing the range of physical and emotional symptoms a patient is experiencing, I develop a treatment plan unique to them. Using the three thousand year old wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine I determine the underlying cause of the symptoms, rather than just treating the symptoms themselves.

Seasonal allergies are usually reactions to high pollen counts. Patients exposed to the same pollen or allergens can experience very different symptoms. Each symptom is an indicator of imbalance in a particular organ. For example, chest congestion tells me that an imbalance is in the lungs. Watery eyes indicate a liver issue. Once I’ve determined which organs are affected, I  can then strategically select specific acupuncture points to use, along specific meridians of the body to redirect and to restore even flow of Qi throughout the body. The key strategy in combating allergies is to use the flow of Qi to decrease inflammation and remove excessive dampness from the body.

Depending on the pattern of symptoms presented, I will sometimes create a treatment plan that includes more than just acupuncture. Cupping is an immune boosting remedy that is especially helpful for people with asthma and allergy sufferers who experience congestion, phlegm, sinus issues, excessive coughing or sneezing, and headaches. If the patient is experiencing chronic fatigue alongside these symptoms, cupping will most likely be excluded.

For many allergy patients, I will prescribe Traditional Chinese herbal formulas. As with most of my prescriptions, this formula is available in pill form, making it quick and easy to take each day. The Aller-Ease formula is a herbal formula from Blue Poppy. It is typically the most helpful for patients who experience symptoms like head congestion with runny nose and a fullness in the stomach. All though this is a commonly used formula, it is not for everyone. Book a consultation today, and find out how Traditional Chinese Medicine can help you enjoy summer, symptom free!
